Hello Cold and Flu Season!

I just want to start out saying that I do realize that my last entry had no relation whatsoever with the title. I was trying to get a quick entry in before I left, but obviously I didn't finish writing what I was planning on telling you all. Josh was bugging me to leave so I just ended that entry and forgot to change the title. I'll try and do better next time. :)

I'm one of those people that write out what they're going to say, and read it back to myself a dozen times to make sure it makes sense or I don't stray too far off the path of reason. And while reading back on my old entries, I noticed that I start almost every single blog with the word "So...." So, from now on, I'm going to try and tame back on that a little. (Good luck with that since the first sentence I write after putting that out there began with so.)

What's been going on? Well, Friday night Josh's mom, his brother and the twins came for a long weekend visit. We all sat around the table talking until late Friday night talking and catching up. Then, about 1 a.m. that Saturday morning, I hear Lucas gasping for air. We bring him in our room and give him a breathing treatment and suctioned out his nose. Not long after the breathing treatment started, he was back to his good 'ole self, and was breathing just fine, so we put him back to bed. Well just after 4 a.m. he started gasping for air again. We started another breathing treatment, but that didn't seem to do anything at all so we made the decision to bring him to the hospital. (I know, we were doing so good up until now!) Well I didn't feel comfortable bringing him to the hospital by myself because he was retracting so bad--his arms and his legs were literally jumping up and down because he was using his entire body to breathe! It almost looked like he was having a seizure--so we ended up having to call the ambulance to pick us up.

This time around, the ambulance was there in minutes! The people were young, and weird. The lady working on Lucas used about every single supply they had in the back of the car. Well Lucas is an extremely hard stick (for an IV), but little miss enthusiastic said she "had" to try--but she was only gonna try once...while the car was moving at that! She then proceeds to tell me that if she can't get a line, then she will have to give him his medicine intravenously if he needs it. Now, I'm pretty good with medical terms, but I guess she could tell I had a blank look on my face. Either that or she just has no bedside manner, because she then looks at me with a straight face and says, "you know...like with a drill." I just said, "uh huh" and cursed her under my breath as I was rolling my eyes. If that little girl thinks she's getting anywhere near my boy with a drill, she's out of her freakin' mind!

It seemed to take forever to get to the hospital. Oddly enough, there weren't many people in the ER and they put us straight in a room. Within a couple of hours, we were admitted to the hospital. His lungs were SO juicy, I really thought he had pneumonia. But, as it turns out, my little guy had the croop! The doc said he probably caught it from Joshua's runny nose earlier in the week. He was on breathing treatments a few hours apart throughout the day, and they put him on steroids in case asthma played any part in this. They also gave him a prescription for Miralax (a stool softener) to help him have daily b.m.'s instead of weekly. **Angelic voices singing hymns** I can not tell you what a relief it is to have this. We just got it filled yesterday, but it's already working! And can you believe Walgreens refused to fill it for me since they carried it on the shelf. The woman told me that "most insurance companies won't pay for this anymore since they're cutting back and told me to go buy it off the shelf. What the heck! She didn't even try to get it approved! Good thing my awesome Godfather works for a pharmacy because it was approved. And thank goodness, because otherwise it would've cost me about $15 every 10 days. That adds up quick!

The Croop! That's the big thing with a "special needs child", a little thing like a common cold could put us in the hospital for a few days. I thank God that it was nothing serious--this time. And pray that we can stay healthy this winter. This is only the first week that summer's over and we're already in the hospital.

And on another note, last week Dr. Niyazov prescribed Lucas yet another vitamin to his daily regime. So I went to Whole Foods to pick it up, along with another vitamin we ran out of, and can you believe I spent $40 on two small bottles? The new bottle was on sale for $20 and will last me about a month and a half I think. But the other bottle will only last me 10 days. We had been getting the small bottle from a place online that carries it in bulk (that last for about two months or so) but that one costs about $100--and that's at a huge discount our doctor worked out for us. I have come to the conclusion that I hate money. If you think it's expensive to have kids these days, try having a special needs child. A lot of these medicines are just vitamins that are carried over the counter and not covered under our insurance so we end up paying for a bunch of his meds.

Well if you can believe it, I'm actually not finished with all what I have to say, but maybe if I wrote more often I wouldn't have such long entries and could fit all my thoughts onto the page nicely. But, Joshua started his first day of Pre-K at the Wee Care Center and it's time to go pick him up, so I have to go now. My little boys are growing so fast! Time is flying by.
